The coin is dedicated to 150th anniversary of Panas Myrnyi (P.Y.Rudchenko, 1849-1920), an outstanding democratic writer, author of the well-known realistic works: `How Can Bullocks Bellow while a Manger Full is?` `Lymerivna`, `Hungry Freedom`, `Streetwalker`, etc.

On the coin obverse there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine in the centre of the circle made of beads, set in cranberry bush sprays and the conventionalized inscriptions: УКРАЇНА, 2 ГРИВНІ, 1999 (Ukraine/ 2/ hryvnia/ 1999).

On the coin reverse there is a depiction of the writer`s portrait surrounded by the conventionalized inscriptions: ПАНАС МИРНИЙ (П.Я.РУДЧЕНКО) (Panas Myrnyi (P.Y.Rudchenko), 1849 and 1920 and his facsimile
