Description

Icebreaker `Captain Belousov`
Криголам `Капітан Бєлоусов`

The coin is dedicated to the icebreaker which was put into operation 50 years ago and which is named after Mykhailo P. Belousov (1904 – 1946), an experienced polar captain and a Hero of the Soviet Union.
It was shelled by the russian occupation forces on the night of April 7-8, 2022. The shelling killed one person and injured several others.

On the coin obverse on the left there is a depiction of an anchor and a steering-wheel, against whose background there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine is depicted; in the middle there are engraved horizontal symbolic waves above which there are inscriptions: on the German silver coin: УКРАЇНА/2004 (above), 5/ГРИВЕНЬ (beneath). There is also the Mint logotype of the Bank of Ukraine.

On the coin reverse there is a depiction of an ice-breaker amidst blocks of ice – in the foreground, and a boat in pure water – in the background; there are the inscriptions: `КАПІТАН БЄЛОУСОВ` (`Captain Belousov`), above in semicircle, and beneath – КРИГОЛАМ (Icebreaker) horizontal depiction against the mirror background
