20 Years of Independence of Ukraine

The commemorative coin is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Ukraine`s independence. On August 24, 1991, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine that opened a new era in the development of Ukraine as a sovereign state.

On the obverse of the coin there are: the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine in the centre and the cruciform image of rushnyks (Ukrainian embroidered decorative towels); between the rushnyks there are portraits of the most outstanding personalities of different epochs of our history together with the legends: ЯРОСЛАВ МУДРИЙ, ТАРАС ШЕВЧЕНКО, МИХАЙЛО ГРУШЕВСЬКИЙ, БОГДАН ХМЕЛЬНИЦЬКИЙ; below against the background of a rushnyk there is indicated the coin minting year 2011 and the semicircular inscriptions: НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) (above) and coin denomination (below): П`ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (five hryvnias).

On the reverse of the 5 hryvnia coin there is depicted a conventionalized wreath of viburnum fruits and leaves together with the legend: 20 РОКІВ / НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТІ / УКРАЇНИ / 24 СЕРПНЯ / 1991 Р. (20 years / of independence / of Ukraine / 24 August / 1991 year) in the centre thereof.
