The coins are dedicated to Grasshopper Ukrainian (POECILIMON UKRAINICUS), the rare species of grasshoppers which inhabits only the area of Ukraine and who is on the endangered-species list of Ukraine
On the obverse of both coins, set in a wreath of images of certain flora and fauna species, there is the Small National Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions: on the German silver coin – НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ / БАНК / УКРАЇНИ / 2 / ГРИВНІ / 2006 (National Bank of Ukraine, 2 hryvnias, 2006). The logo of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint is placed on both coins.
On the coins reverse of both coins there is a cricket on a grass stem and the semicircular inscriptions say: ПИЛКОХВІСТ УКРАЇНСЬКИЙ (Ukrainian bush cricket) above and POECILIMON UKRAINICUS below.
