The Ukrainian National Museum of Chicago

This medal celebrates the Ukrainian National Museum of Chicago, which also serves as an archive. The museum, which was established by the efforts of several generations of emigrants to preserve the spiritual heritage of the Ukrainian people, represents Ukrainian history and culture on the American continent. Founded in 1952, the museum plays an important role in the cultural and artistic world of the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States, serving as a place where people can unite around the idea of Ukraine’s independence, and shaping the national identity of Ukrainians. The museum boasts about 100,000 pieces of archive materials about the history and culture of Ukraine and unique relics of the past – from the Cossack age to the present, which tell about the national liberation struggle, artificial famine as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people, and their path to independence.

Obverse: there is a stylized composition that symbolizes a respectful and reverential attitude to the Ukrainian heritage that is stored at the museum: hands supporting the logotype of the museum; above the hands is a guelder rose branch; beneath are Ukraine’s small coat of arms, the semicircular legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) and the medal’s issue year –20/22; under the composition is the mint mark of the NBU’s Banknote Printing and Minting Works.

Reverse: against the smooth background of an urban landscape is the building of the museum; to the right are the following legends: 1952 and УКРАЇНСЬКИЙ НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ МУЗЕЙ (Ukrainian National Museum) (vertically); beneath is the legend ЧИКАГО (Chicago).
